COR-Energy has successfully tested a prototype of flywheel energy storage system

In March 2024, the R&D center of COR-Energy successfully tested a working prototype of the E-NER-COR flywheel energy storage.

The equipment was manufactured for long-term storage of electricity and for a wide range of tasks. The flywheel energy storage uses the kinetic energy of rotating motion to store certain volumes of electricity, based on the principle of converting kinetic energy into electrical energy.

As for the level of technological readiness, at this stage the development is at the TRL 4 stage.

The main technical specifications of E-NER-COR

The 3-phase flywheel-based energy storage system showcases a 1 kW/h volume and a charging capacity of 2 kW/h, with a weight of 90 kilograms. Its rotating disk can achieve speeds of up to 3,000 revolutions per minute (RPM), providing stability during energy storage.

With a high efficiency of over 97% for both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC), it ensures optimal energy transfer to the network.

Encased in a hermetic E-NER-COR housing, the device is protected from external elements such as dust, rain, and temperature fluctuations. This feature is vital for maintaining the device’s reliability over an extended period, even in harsh weather conditions.

“E-NER-COR is a full-fledged electricity storage system that performs several tasks at the same time: solving the problem of limited charge cycles, long-term storage of electricity, as well as doing peak shaving,” the company says.

E-NER-COR has a long service life, which, unlike traditional electrochemical battery energy storages, does not depend on the number of charging cycles.
